Description

The site is located to the north of the Methodist Chapel at Brough, Nottinghamshire, to the east of the A46. A combined magnetometer, earth resistance and ground penetrating radar survey was conducted over approximately 300m² of grassland, in the grounds of Brough Methodist Church. Techniques: Magnometer - Bartington Grad 601-2 - Traverse Interval: 1.0m - Sample Interval: 0.25m Resistance - Geoscan Research RM15 - Traverse Interval: 0.5m - Sample Interval: 0.5m GPR - GSSI Dual Frequency (300MHz/800MHz) - Traverse Interval: 0.5m x 0.5m orthogonal - Sample Interval: 0.01m The combined magnetometer, earth resistance and GPR survey at Crococolana Roman Town has revealed a small number of areas of possible brick or stone remains. The remains may relate to fragmented structural remains of buildings/walls of the Roman town, however the site’s adjacency to the Methodist church means that some of the responses may be a result of early Methodist graves or burials. The small scale of the site makes further interpretation of the features difficult, and has led to the classification of many anomalies as being of unknown origin. Modern responses detected in the surveys include disturbance from the perimeter wall of the church, and underground services such as pipes, cables or drains.
