Description
Stanford Hall is within the parish of Stanford-on-Soar, to the north-east of Loughborough. The Hall itself lies to the north of the village within the Borough of Rushcliffe in Nottinghamshire.
Archaeological recording took place intermittently over nine days. The first visit, 12/09/22, involved lowering ground levels in the vicinity of the south west corner of the allocated road strip. This first stage of work was located close to Leake Lane and was adjoined to Melton Road by the final day of excavations, on the 29/9/22. Once areas of the roadway had been excavated, recorded, and signed off, the groundworks team filled the resultant voids with limestone rubble.
While excavations took place, a modern linear/ditch-like feature was exposed. A plastic pipe was within its backfill, therefore it was not deemed necessary to undertake any further investigation of this feature.
The only other feature to be exposed by the groundworks was a northwest to southeast orientated shallow ditch, situated towards the south side of the development. This feature was sample excavated in a controlled manner, but its fill did not yield any datable in-situ artefacts. It measured 0.35m wide, 0.15m deep.
Overall, it is concluded that the development impact on archaeological remains has been negligeable.
