Abstract/Summary
A scheme of archaeological monitoring and recording took place during redevelopment groundworks at Stanford Hall for The Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre, situated in the Borough of Rushcliffe in Nottinghamshire.
Stanford Hall, an 18th century Grade II* listed house, is situated in the parish of Stanford-on-Soar, approximately 5 miles to the north-east of Loughborough. Archaeological finds in the vicinity have revealed evidence dating from Bronze Age to post-medieval times.
This report describes the archaeological methodology that was adopted in order to mitigate the effects of redevelopment and fulfil the requirements that were attached to the granting of planning permission.
Development groundworks took place over a nine-day period, when an experienced field archaeologist was present to monitor all relevant intrusive excavations. A single shallow northeast to southwest linear ditch-like feature was exposed. No dateable material was recovered from within this feature and no other archaeological deposits were encountered.
