Description

The Project Site is west of Sutton Road and south of the A38. There is residential development to the east and undeveloped countryside and woodland to the west. The site is currently occupied by Ashfield Comprehensive School. This desk-based assessment report is a high-level appraisal required to inform Department of Education plans for the potential redevelopment of the Project Site. As a high level appraisal, no site visit has been undertaken. However, the findings of this DBA indicate that a site visit would not have been worthwhile until formal plans have been established as there is little to indicate the presence of archaeology. There is little evidence for archaeology dating from the Prehistoric to Medieval periods to occur on the Project Site. There is some potential for archaeology dating to the Post-Medieval period in the form of the remains of Ash Farm (if any part of it survived the later school development) and some possible mining heritage. Future development of the Project Site is not expected to impact on the single Listed Building within the Study Area.
