Description

A small site to the rear of 48-52 Castlegate was examined before the area was levelled and grassed over. This piece of ground lies just inside the presumed position of the SW angle of the Med circuit. The area which could be excavated was unfortunately somewhat limited … 3 principal trenches were dug, A, B and C, A and B being later linked to provide a continuous section across the features they revealed. Another cutting, D, was also begun 2m S of B and parallel to it, but the ground here was so disturbed by large modern pits that no advantage was to be had in continuing with its excavation. (1)
