Full Description

[Anomalies] a little to the NE of the summit of the hill … represent either very large buried metal objects or the site of an intense fire. … At the SW end of the survey area a sub-rectangular anomaly may indicate buried ditches, perhaps a part of a sub-rectangular enclosure; adjacent are two smaller anomalies which might indicate pits. A little east of this a faint sub-circular anomaly and two faint, parallel linear anomalies were also detected. … at the SW edge of the survey area an intense magnetic anomaly indicates another buried metal object, or area of intense burning … A substantial quantity of iron stone, haematite and some slag was noted on the hilltop. This, together with the evidence for isolated areas of intense burning from the magnetometer survey, may indicate an undated episode of industrial activity, perhaps iron smelting, on the hilltop. (1)
