Full Description

(One large field has been created out of parcels 4757, 4337, 3700 and 0045.) The pottery is mainly green glazed, some sherds very abraded and mainly from squat jugs. One sherd with white slip beneath the glaze is not a usual Nottingham type. The mixture of Med fabrics suggests that either some do not come from Nottingham or that there is a range of dates through C13 to C14. Dirtier clay in some sherds also suggests a non-Nottingham source, possibly Lincoln, or a later date, c.C14. Later in date are sherds of light bodied gritty ware, Midland Purple ware (C15 to C17) and a sherd of Tiger ware, German stoneware of C16. (1)
See L11114 for Neo/BA flints from this area, L11115 for P Med gunflints, L11190 for fire-cracked pebbles. See L2968, L8331 for cropmarks.
