Description

Five seasons of a fieldwalking programme were carried out at South Muskham. It was proposed to fieldwalk all available fields within the area and compare the distribution of cropmarks and artefact scatters. Transects were spaced 10m apart and search was made up to 1m either side of the central line. Metal objects of antiquity, RB, med and prehistoric pottery as well as worked and burnt flint, worked stone and fire cracked pebbles were recorded and, with the exception of FCP, collected. Post medieval pottery was not recorded or collected. (1) Finds are recorded and described by field, some boundary reorganisation appears to have taken place since, so the report should be refered to for precise location information. Some confusion over these field numbers appears to have arisen with some field numbers mentioned in the text but not shown on the distribution maps and some fields being numbered differently on different maps. Source (1) contains and summarises the information from sources (2), (3), (4) and (5) which are therefore not quoted on the elements. Source (6) is the published form of source (1). (7)
