Full Description
41 sherds of medieval pottery were obtained [during fieldwalking, from all fields], mostly dating from C13 to C14. These sherds are concentrated almost exclusively on the gravel island (fields 5400, 4982 - 34 sherds) and could derive from manuring in this period. A large proportion of sherds are unabraded. The pottery consists mostly of sandy fabrics in various colours (with orange predominating), some sherds glazed green, yellow or brown. Forms represented are mostly jugs with a few cooking pots. Sources include kilns at Nottingham and Lincoln. Also two sherds of Midland Purple. (1) (2)
