Full Description

Soil stripping for temporary compound (site 1) revealed a low bank of lias rubble running N-S … this rubble apparently overlaid a low bank of earth. From this a second bank ran E - W up to the E fence line. It is assumed that the rubble covered banks represent the boundaries of a property. A large pit dug for the construction of the pumping chamber cut through the E-W bank. Cut into the Keuper Marl beneath the bank was a V-shaped ditch filled with brown earth, seen in section only, but it may run on the same line as the rubble bank above. No dating evidence was seen.
