Full Description

At a depth of c.80cm a pebble surface lying horizontal immediately above natural sands and gravels. The mixed soil above the surface contained … a clay pipe bowl. …(To the N) another metalled surface of limestone fragments and pebbles extended for c 12m before merging into a looser gravel spread to the SW. … Surface material similar was found on the W side of Castlegate, outside the Gilstrap Centre. This consisted mainly of pebbles. (1)
Grid ref for metalling outside Gilstrap Centre, other patches occurred to SW along Castlegate.
