Full Description

Watching brief on pipe trench. A thick deposit of black ashy material with charcoal was seen, sealed by three distinct road layers. The density of burnt material in this layer raised the possibility that it was the product of the 1701 fire thought to have destroyed most of the town centre buildings. (1)
See L11666 for similar layer to E.
