Full Description

Test pits 1994 - Trench 2 is on the site of a former fishpond. It revealed modern rubbish, glass, corrugated iron, metal rods, plastic etc. The farmer confirms that the fishpond was used as a rubbish tip. The fishpond showed no edge and gradually deepened from the west end. Trench 3 revealed the western edge of fishpond, containing worksop rubbish, welding rods and wire.
Watching brief 1995 - The watching brief confirmed the existence of an additional fish pond. No evidence of the actual date of the pond was found. (1)

While the watching brief may have located an additional fish pond, the report contains no plans, sections or anything else of use regarding this pond. It is not entirely clear that the fishpond in trench 3 is the same as the one in trench 2 so there could be more than one. A possible pond can be seen on OS 6 inch series map, which later becomes truncated by a field boundary as seen on OS 25 inch series 1 and 2. (2)
See L4162 for scheduled fish pond complex immediately to the W
