Full Description

The new trench cut across the line of a deeper trench containing a sewer which had removed the gravel road surface. The trench had been backfilled with red crushed tile and brick fragments. The post-medieval clay roof tile fragments may derive from a deposit of tile pieces which the sewer had disturbed elsewhere in the vicinity. This might indicate a brickworks site nearby. (1)
