Full Description

Trench 01. Medieval sherds came from trowelling the natural surface. … Two narrow (c.0.4m wide) parallel gulleys were cut by a pit which itself appeared to be a deeper recut of a shallower and wider feature. All contained animal bone, fragments of medieval pottery and tile. To the S of the gulleys a few small (0.25m in diameter) pit like features, six in a row perpendicular to the gulleys. One of these was excavated and proved to be 0.2m deep below the natural gravel surface, it yielded a single sherd of green glazed pot. To the N of the gulleys were a series of larger, but ill defined, features, which yielded Roman, medieval and post medieval pottery. (1)
See L11708 for Roman poottery, L11709 for post medieval and modern finds.
