Full Description

Trench 4 - Two groups of potential pits were identified. The southern group comprised very uniform sub-rectangular pits c. 2.1m long by 1.8m wide and between 0.4 and 0.5m deep. Steep sided with fairly flat bases and had been closely spaced on a SE - NW alignment. The other group of potential pits was not so clearly defined; may represent the remains of tree boles. No artefacts recovered. Other features included a small pit and a post hole, ditch and large possible post hole with fragments of poorly preserved oak heartwood. May have been remains of tree stump rather than post. (1)
