Full Description
In Trench 1, a C18/C19 quarry tile floor. Below … a layer contained C19 clay pipe stems and china which may have been intrusive. In Trench 2, a brick lined drain and a lias limestone lined drain of post medieval or later date. In Trench 3, a layer of dark brown sandy silt, with lens of ashy material. This contained a fragment of bottle glass, a clay pipe stem and a sherd of pottery, all of post medieval date. The layer below the quarry tile floor was more like an occupation layer, and could have been associated with a pre C18 building fronting onto Lombard Street. (1)
