Full Description

Ro villa. Late C3 mosaic found 1856. (1) (2) (3)
In 1856 a tesselated pavement was found, at Glebe Farm. Excavations carried out in 1933 and 1949 which were limited to small exploratory trenches beside the farm buildings suggest a villa of winged corridor type. It is a reasonable conjecture that the villa consisted basically of a block running N-S, some 180-200ft long, with extensions running W-E at each extremity, each perhaps 150ft in length, the whole enclosing a yard. Occupation beginning in a small way in the early C2 and lasting, with increasing intensity, to the middle of the C4. (4)
Excavations have been covered in and the land has been under crop. (5)
See M680 for ? IA-Ro farmstead.
