Full Description
The Beeston Cut or Canal, 2 1/2 miles long from Beeston to Lenton, was opened in April 1796. (1)
The 1794 Act allowed for the making of the Beeston Canal. It was a cut from the Nottingham Canal at Lenton, to the Trent at Beeston. It was intended to bring Trent trade to Nottingham's wharves and to by-pass the difficult Trent Bridge. The canal was 2.5 miles (4.02km) in length and had two locks and was capable of taking vessels 63ft x 14ft 6in. It was opened in 1796. (3).
