Full Description

The body of the church was rebuilt in 1867-9 by J. H. Hakewill. The fine tower and spire with dormers is C14. Font 1662. (1) (2)

C13 style east window [and] piscina. West tower, early C14. Rebuilt 1867 by J. H. Hakewill. (3)

A new 2.3m x 85cm doorway was cut through internal wall of spiral staircase in 2003 to provide access to a new bell-ringer’s gallery under a watching brief undertaken by Trent and Peak Archaeological Unit. This revealed that the wall narrows from 64cm to less than 30cm and 2 hazelnut shells were found embedded in the mortar. (4)
