Full Description

An estate built by Bestwood Coal and Iron Company, which had a colliery and ironworks in operation by 1874. Bestwood ironworks began with 2 furnaces and added 2 more c.1890, but stopped smelting in 1920s and was subsequently dismantled. The colliery is still working. (1)
