Full Description

Built by the Bestwood Coal & Iron Company. The company houses are some of the best built on the coalfield during the second half of the nineteenth century. Relatively short terrace rows. Each house has a small walled garden. The pseudo-heraldic device built into the brickwork [is] inscribed with the company's initials [and] dated 1876. (1)
The planned village survives with dark brick houses bearing the company crest. (2)
Some original brick and tile porches and sliding sash windows remain but there have been a number of unattractive modern additions, especially the application of stone cladding which always looks out of place. (3)
See M2121 for the Village site.
See MNT27854 for Colliery Village.
