Full Description

In 1345 (John Darcy) ... obtained a licence to mark and enclose a park of Kirkby, and the fields on its site are still known as Kirkby Park. (1)
(Not mentioned in EP Shirley, 1867)
The boundary of the Med park is probably represented by a nearly continuous line of field boundaries, followed by the parish boundary, on the S, and by streams on the E and W with the road from Pinxton to Kirkby in Ashfield forming the N boundary. No evidence of an earthen pale was seen: the field boundaries are hedgerows on a slight bank. The area enclosed is farmland with collieries and is undulating but generally high ground. (2)
Park at Kirkby in Ashfield owned by Robert de Stutevill, mantioned 1306. (3)
Grid ref centred.
See M17283 and M17284 for associated farmsteads.
