Factory and mill. External dimensions of main part 23ft x 11ft. Dimensions of room accessible - sides 12ft 6in x 5ft 8in x 11ft 3in x 10ft 10in, height 11ft 8in. Height of whole building 22ft. Not used now except for storage. Wheels removed, building very neglected. Later addition, date unknown. Modern building constructed adjacent to old mill. This mill almost completely gutted by fire in early Aug 1963. Owners are Adlington, Candwell and Taylor since 1880. Water wheel replaced by turbine, 2nd largest in England. Water came from reservoir. All machinery removed in 1920s. (1)
The 1839 waterwheel was 36ft diameter by 8ft wide. It was replaced by a turbine later on. Later on still it was repalced by an 11 HP beam steam engine. (3)
This is the second King's Mill, built to replace the one which was drowned by the construction of King's Mill Reservoir, 1839. (4)
