Full Description

Rebuilt in 1739 after part of the church had collapsed. (1)
Chancel with S vestry, nave with S aisle, S porch and W tower. All is modern except for the C15 tower which is said to have been built in 1485. The W part of the nave and the S aisle were rebuilt in 1739 and the remainder of the nave and the chancel in C19. (3)
Largely 1739, but of Med origin. W gallery with panelled front. Box pew panelling nailed to walls. Painted panel on reverse of hymn board with David and his harp, by Shepherd 1779. Tablet to William Bilbie 1777 by Theakston of Doncaster. Little Med work survives. Restored. (4)
Architectural fragments from the church, prior to rebuilding, were removed to Fountain Dale c.1839 and were brought back c.1902. (While at Fountain Dale they seem to have been formed into a building which has been identified as a hermitage or cell associated with Friar Tuck). (5)
W Tower … C15, unbuttressed and much restored. Some fragments, a window, a door and some walling have been re-erected in the churchyard [probably the debris returned in 1902]. (6)
The church is in use for public worship. (7)
In 1839 … the old chancel was taken down, and the tower raised about five feet. (8)
See M5319 for cross in churchyard.
