Full Description

A hollow rock, called Robin Hood's Stable, handed down as such by tradition. It is a curious cave, apparently cut out of the solid rock, on the side of a little hill. There are 3 hollows within it. (1)
The cave has been destroyed by erosion and vandalism in the last 20 years. It was an artificial cave which had been constructed as a stable and stalls and manger had been cut from the soft limestone. (2)
No trace of any artificial construction remains. (3)
The late Mr HF Wagtstaff excavated in 1915 - nothing was found. (4)
There is now only a recess in the rock face, formed by the collapse of the original cave roof, and no traces of artificial features. (5)
