Full Description

Some of the charters show that the territory of Cratley lay around the streams that unite in the strange eastward pointing snout of land which now forms the NE part of Rufford. In 1329-30 the abbot's attorney claimed free warren at North Lathe, sometimes known as "Cratel". The abbey gained control of Cratley and then reduced it to a grange by 1160. (1)
Grid ref for old position of "North Leys". (2)
See M4109 for Cratley village (alternative position), M3357 for Roumes Grange, M3358 for Winkerfield Grange.
