The remains of the manor house of the Spigurnel family who held the manor of Skegsby from the C13 ... They consist of 2 rectangular buildings at right angles to each other - building A is 32ft x 18ft with walls about 2ft 6in thick. In N wall is a large C13 or C14 blocked window with a small blocked lancet below. There are also remains of square headed windows in the W wall. This building may possibly be later than B - this stands on a N facing slope and the S wall was completely demolished in the C19. It was about 39ft long by 24ft wide. The N wall has a total of 6 windows, square headed, 2 of which appear to be original and a large round headed door or window. The door has attached shafts, flat square abaci and could fit well with a date of c 1200 AD. In 1898 traces of other buildings to the E are mentioned in (5). The structure has been partially consolidated and excavated prior to a housing development being completed to the E of the upstanding structures. The latter clearly are arranged around a court, fronting a spring sand stream. Further structures are evident from plant growth to the SW of building B, also near to the disused railway track and new bungalow. The present development is sympathetic to the upstanding masonry of this fine Med structure. However, the DOE has not completed its works and the remains will crumble rapidly resulting in the collapse of gables or walls which are left undercut by the present works - urgent completion required. Excavations in 1981/2 revealed the S wall of building B and a garderobe pit at its NE corner. No positive dating evidence recovered. (3)

Manor house, now a roofless ruin. 1207 and late C13. Built by the Spigurnel family. (10)

Skegby Bridge Farm (?), remains of the ancient manor house of the Lindleys: one block with a tall gable and a large pointed window, another with a round-headed Tudor doorway. (11)

The ruins of the original Manor House of Skegby, a fee farm noted in 1207, can still be seen near the railway station in a joiners yard. Given by William Pensax to his daughter who married Percival Lindley in 1480. They later built a new house on the site that is now covered by the present Hall built in 1720. (8)

The ruins are located at SK 49606095 and are as described by authy 1. One doorway appears quite early. Foundations extend westwards and all are built into the hillside and have a spring issuing from beneath. (9)

Remains of a medieval manor house, probably built in the early 13th century. The earliest standing remains date from this period and represent the remains of a hall house. Further walls will survive beneath the surrounding lawn and gardens. A second building, possibly a solar, was added circa 1340 and survives to roof height. Excavations in the courtyard area revealed the cobbled surface of the yard, traces of additional buildings and a medieval drainage system. The manor house had been replaced by the early 18th century and a farmhouse built west of the hall. The manor house and solar were converted into cottages and farm buildings and were in a state of disrepair by the late 19th/early 20th century. Building remains to the west of the hall are thought to mark the site of the 18th century farm. Scheduled. (12) (13)

The manorial complex consisted of a C13 hall (constructed c.1250-1300) and C14 solar (constructed 1300-1350), beside a courtyard, bounded by a water course. The medieval interior of the hall had been lost except for a garderobe, when the site was converted to a malting, in the post medieval period. The solar occupied the site of an earlier timber building, and was converted into cottages. Finds include C13 pottery, painted window glass, stone, etc. (14)
