Domesday gives the Archbishop of York having a mill value 12d. An article dated October 1964 by Mr JW Bennett gives details of the mill in later years. It stood 100yds upstream from where the Beck turns to flow alongside the Norwell to Bathley Road. The waterwheel and tackle was mainly made of wood. It was a corn mill and worked in conjunction with a small farm on which it stood and formed part of. It was a two storey brick and tile building with an external, probably undershot, waterwheel. A cog wheel was saved which was made of apple wood. The whole site was cleared c 1960. In 1857 steam power is mentioned although this may have been in conjunction with the windmill that was also in the village. In 1884 there were two pairs of stones, a warehouse, barn and stable. (4)
