Full Description

The wall along the north of the garden containing the Eagle Pond is supported by C14 butressess. The precincts of the Abbey were surrounded by a dyke and possibly by a wall. (1)
Thompson's "dyke" is the depression along the E wall of the Abbey garden. There are no Med documentary refs to the precinct wall or ditch, though the former at least must have existed. (2)
The "dyke" or "depression" is a moderately sized ha ha ditch running along the outer face of the E boundary wall of the Abbey gardens. No evidence of a Med ditch was seen. No evidence of a Med precinct wall was seen in field investigation. (3)
See M8293 for Abbey House, M9065 for wall.
