The Eyres had a moated residence (at Rayton) the site of which may still be seen near the River Ryton, to the SE of, and on lower ground than the modern farm house, the moated enclosure now being used as an orchard. (1)
Rectangular moat, marsh filled, lying on low ground beside the river. The site is covered with trees, bushes and summer herbage. Survey impracticable, details and finer points of banks and ditch cannot be determined. (2)
The published feature has been bulldozed, levelled, seeded, and is now under pasture, no details survive. The estate manager stated that no building debris had been noted during the above operations. (3)
