Goverton is Sofertune (sic) in 958 in the Yorkshire Charters, Goverton c 1200, Gouirton in the Lay Subsidy Rolls 1332, and Goarton in 1607. (2)

Perambulation and enquiry in the vicinity of Goverton both negative. NCRO have no information regarding desertion of this still active hamlet. (1) cannot be contacted. A dubious site that should be treated with caution. (5)
