Rufford colliery - production commenced 1913. (1)
Closed 26/11/1993.
Sunk in 1912-13 by the Bolsover Colliery Company on land leased from Lord Savile after whose estate the colliery was named. 14 lives were lost during sinking when a heavy water barrel accidentally fell down the shaft, kiling the sinkers. Output records were broken by the colliery in 1933 due to it technoloigcally advanced double unit conveyor system. (2)
