Rufford colliery - production commenced 1913. (1)

Closed 26/11/1993.

Sunk in 1912-13 by the Bolsover Colliery Company on land leased from Lord Savile after whose estate the colliery was named. 14 lives were lost during sinking when a heavy water barrel accidentally fell down the shaft, kiling the sinkers. Output records were broken by the colliery in 1933 due to it technoloigcally advanced double unit conveyor system. (2) (3)

It was reconstructed between 1954-1969 and altered from 1987-1989. (4)

Rufford Colliery is labelled at SK 5959 5990 (NAT) on the modern OS map, slightly further to the east , disused workings are indicated. (5)
