AP shows in 3rd and 4th fields beyond railway on S side of Cromwell-Norwell road a series of contiguous rectangular to subrectangular enclosures. (1)
1970 APs show more contiguous enclosures, cut by other linear features. The enclosures can be seen to be incorporated in 1 large enclosure with a trackway running its whole length and further S. To the W of the track is a small rectangular enclosure divided in 2 and possibly with an entrance. To the S of this are 3 ring ditches and a linear feature running E-W across the field. Pickering 70 shows internal disturbance in enclosures. (2)(3)(4)(5)
A possible Med settlement site evident on the APs as cropmarks of tracks flanked by rectangular enclosures. (6)
Substantial cropmark complex close to the River Trent representing principally the multi-stage development of a "native settlement" of probably Ro date (very close to the important villa site in Cromwell parish). The settlement is disposed along both sides of a long "street", the side ditches of which appear to have been recut several times. A series of small and large rectilinear enclosures have access to both sides of this street representing the garden and stock enclosures of the village. The possibility is also present of some Preh circular enclosures (ring ditches) underlying the village. Large fairly level ploughed field. (7)
The marks are located in a field that is level on the W but from the line of the track shelves gently to the E. Under plough when visited (see 04192e,f for finds). The fields to the E are permanent pasture. Nothing was seen to confirm the suggested classification (by (6)) of Med. (8)
