Full Description

6 cottages. Early C19. (1)
Victorian cottages, built in 1836. Associated levels were examined in all five areas. The large oven of the previous phase was dismantled, the void was filled with a massive dump of destruction rubble to raise the level before the new cottage plan was constructed. There was little evidence the E wall rested over an earlier foundation. The S wall was also of one build, its construction trench was dug through the top of the destruction layer. The brick built W wall was built over the top of an earlier (medieval) foundation. Floors were of quarry tiles except for the scullery (in trench 2) which had a floor of horizontally set bricks. (2) (3)
See M for medieval building, M for post medieval building both on this site and sharing some foundations.
