Full Description
House ... and adjoining outbuildings wall and railing. Late C18, with early and mid C19 and C20 additions and alterations. (1)
A late C18 main central block, including the NW bow front. A late C18 early C19 phases consisting of the rear of the property onto Millgate and the kitchens etc…with early to mid C20 additions and infilling. Rendered brick with slate roof. (2)
Principal exterior features include; original windows, bow and bay windows, Doric columns to bow windows, original chimney stacks, replacement chimney pots, cast iron rain heads and down pipes, coped gables with kneelers, evidence of former front door, boundary walls and railings.
Important interior features include; wooden panelling within several of the ground floor rooms, panelled internal doors, stone fireplace and over-mantle contemporary with the occupation of the house by Enos Smith, 3 other historic fireplaces with surrounds (one marble), early floor tiles, early plaster and straw material, Ionic columns and wall panels to ground floor rooms, Modillioned ceilings to the ground and first floor, surviving cornices, coving and pelmets, grand wooden staircases, margin light stair window, service stair and remains of service corridor, cellar and attic rooms, impressive fanlights on internal and external windows.
