Full Description

Farmhouse. C16, C17, C19. Built with materials quarried from Beauvale Priory. (1)
Estate surveys betweem 1653 and 18244 mention a building at the Abbey. Built of stone, both rubble and ashlar, with tile infill and some brickwork. Dated to the late 16th century based on building form which has a central stack and may have origins as a small cross-passage house. In the 17th century the building was extended to 3 bays. Possible in the mid-18th century the house was partly rebuilt and enlarged and was used as a working farmhouse. The south bay was rebuilt as a double pile structure. Continued in use as a farmhouse until the mid 20th century. (2)

Trial trenches to assess the potential for medieval footing under and adjacent to Beauvale Abbey Farmhouse. Medieval footing uncovered in 2 of 3 trenches. (3)
