Full Description

Dendrochronology (of barn only) produced a last ring date of 1539 for the main posts, tie beams and wall plates, but the roof is later. Estimated felling date is plus 5-10 years at the most (sampling was carried out by R. Howards of NUTRDL on 22/3/02 and the results were communicated verbally on 2/4/02). This date confirms that the barn was probably erected in the medieval period. Note that it appears to have originally been aisled in similar way to as it exists. At the time of writing no earlier example of a standing TFB barn is known in Notts. (1) Also see source 3.
C19 aisle. C19 [and] C18 red brick cow shed[s]. Pigeoncote. (2)
Report showed that the main structure of the barn is dated to the mid-C16, the roof may have been replaced in the early C18. The main structural timbers were felled in the period AD 1545-9. The common rafters were dated felled in AD 1724. Other timbers were felled in the period AD 1684 – 1709. (3)
