Full Description
Barn, stable and pigeoncote with stable under. 1760 and C19. (1)
The small barn opposite (the farmhouse) is dated to 1760 and also has Flemish bond brickwork, with tumbling-in showing in the gable wall. Consists of 3 equal bays and has small opposite entrance doors, the corn having been delivered through upper pitching doors. The small cruciform patterned ventilation holes are commonly seen in Laxton’s barns, and this example also has what may be an owl hole. Built on to the barn is a two-compartment stable for cart and hackney horses with a hayloft above. The brickwork here is an irregular double Flemish bond which together with the ventilation at the eaves dates it to the C19, Whilst this building may date to before 1850, the adjoining short wagon shed (with granary above) is later and was built using a similar brick bond.
