Full Description

The seat of Samuel Bristow…is a spacious mansion, it faces the turnpike road betwixt Newark and Worksop. A rivulet at the bottom of the pleasure grounds, runs by Caunton church, thro’ Willoughby, into the Trent. (1)
A new mansion (Illustrated in [1]) was built in ? C17. The chapel was destroyed in the early C18 and another new mansion was built early C19. (2)
Beesthorpe Hall is Jacobean and converted Georgian. (3)
A remodelled large C17 H-plan brick house, Georgianized and stuccoed in 1770-1. At the back (W), the brick of the original house with traces of mullioned windows. Up to the first-floor level of the S wing, very good stonework with a string course, evidently earlier than the present brick house. In this wing a room with a C16 or C17 plaster frieze. On the main front two one-storey wings … the r. a dining room added in 1809, the l. a sham façade to match it behind which a ballroom was added in 1815. (4)
Drawing room has deep foliate cornice, possibly C17, and C19 plaster ceiling. (5)
Named 'Beesthorp Hall'. (6)
Struturally unsound deluge demolished during works in 2016 (7)
