Full Description

Sutton Bonington … On the corner of Bucks Lane, a late medieval timber framed house, gabled and jettied to the Main Street: now possibly the oldest house in the village. (1)
House, now shop and cottage. Mid C17. (2)
12 timber samples (cores) were taken in 1991 from No.1 Bucks Lane. Dendrochronological analysis did not produce a firm date. Dates in the C15 were proposed but the cores did not have sapwood. Only one sample retained the majority of its sapwood, the last growth ring was dated to 1415 or 1456. The amount of sapwood lost from the other cores from timber with complete sapwood is highly consistent with such a last growth ring date. (3)
