Numbers 6-12 Chain Lane had previously been thought to date to the seventeenth century. Two timbers timbers sampled from 12 Chain Lane produced a felling date range of AD 1685-1705. The two timbers from 6 Chain Lane were dated to AD 1753, which points to a construction date for this part of the building some 50 years later than number 12. (3)
