Abstract/Summary
The Nottingham University Tree-ring Dating Laboratory has investigated a number of buildings in Newark.
Timbers from a range of buildings were chosen for this project, but not all of the buildings chosen for this project were successfully dated; 33-35 Cartergate was sampled but the resulting samples were not analysed as they were unsuitable. None of the samples from Snaiths on Kirkgate were dated; this was also the case with reanalysis of saples from the Friary.
It is clear that all the earliest buildings sampled and dated in this project, up to and including those of fifteenth-century date, are in the 'old borough' of Newark. The dates obtained in the 'new borough' are sixteenth-century or later.
