Full Description

Begun in 1937. By E. Vincent Harris. Work stopped from 1940 to 1945 and the building was incomplete when first used in 1946. It was finished in 1965 except for a suite of committee rooms not fitted up until 1975. (1)
E. Vincent Harris (1879-1971) … designed many large municipal buildings including … the Town Hall Extension, Manchester (1934-8) … and Nottingham County Hall (1935). (2)
Similar in plan and scale (though certainly not in style) to the contemporary Manchester Town Hall Extension. (3)
