Sherwood Lodge. (5)
Built two miles north of Redhill on land allotted to William Coape Sherbrooke at the enclosure of Arnold in 1791. … The brick mansion had a three-bay pediment on the front, with a Venetian window and a Tuscan porch. It also had several canted bay windows. On acquiring the property (c. 1872) Charles Seeley immediately had the house enlarged to about twice its size, including adding a dressing room and library, without altering its C18 character. … Nottinghamshire County Council purchased the estate … in 1973, and demolished the house and church shortly afterwards. The house was replaced by a CLASP office building as part of the new police county headquarters, which were opened in 1979. (6)
See M17244 for police headquarters.
