Full Description

An 18ft wide ford of large stones retained by large timber piles was removed in 1820, coin of Hadrian found amoung the timbers. (1)
‘Roman ford’ marked on the 6 inch OS Map (1956 edition) although any remains have been removed by dredging. (2)
When the river was cleared for navigation in 1820, a stone paved ford was removed from the bed, but attempts to locate any remains of this by Sheffield University Diving Club in 1955 were inconclusive. (3)
