Field Evaluation at Besthorpe Quarry showed that the area was found to contain two sites, the Ferry Lane Farm cropmark complex and the hitherto unknown site to the south of Mons Pool. Archaeological deposits were of Romano-British date (2nd – 4th century AD) and although the area had been ploughed in the medieval period, were well preserved. On the present evidence the site can be said to be broadly contemporary with Ferry Lane Farm. (1)
The magnetic data suggests that there is a wealth of archaeological features to be found on the highest ground in the survey area. In particular an area of some 2 ha, largely within the northern field (Field A) has revealed evidence for anomalies similar to those obtained in the previous survey at Ferry Lane Farm. (2)
