Full Description

Terraced houses. (1) (2)
Wilson Street was built in 1766 by Dr Bernard Wilson, Vicar of St. Mary Magdalene, (3) originally with two identical brick terraces each of sixteen tall houses facing each other. Only the W terrace survives. The mortar layer may have been bedding for slabs, conceivably a yard surface to the rear of the E terrace of 1766. The dressed yellow sandstone precisely matched stone used for the thresholds and doorway footings of the surviving W terrace on the other side of Wilson Street, and is therefore assumed to be demolition debris from the E terrace. (4)
See M13841 for surviving W terrace.
