Full Description

Fieldwalking on route of bypass. 33 sherds of Romano-British pottery were identified in Field 19. The bulk were identified as Derbyshire ware, may indicate a date of late C3 - C4. The majority of pottery sherds are concentrated … at the foot of Hamilton Hill. The presence of a concentration of such material, associated with a high density of heat affected stone usually associated with domestic activities, is suggestive of a Romano-British settlement site.
