Full Description

Late C18 landscape park, originally c.30ha, now in divided ownership,
House C18, altered by Repton 1790 for John Bridgeman Simpson, altered again 1850 by William Burn, and reduced mid-C20.
Babworth Park extended mainly to the north-east, east and south-east of the Hall. Open ground in vicinity of Hall, Babworth Lake, 500m long, to east and south-east, woodland beyond. Lake now drained, and site planted with trees. Repton produced a Red Book in 1790, and was active at Babworth in the 1790s. The Red Book also contains a design for a greenhouse, unexecuted, by William Wilkins. Walled kitchen garden to north of Hall, with stoves and flues. (1)
